AMT was established in 1978 as an undercarriage authorised dealer for the ITM brand in South Africa. The company serves its markets through an extensive network of branches and agents throughout South Africa. In 1983, AMT turned its attention to local manufacture and started production on a comprehensive range of cutting edges, hot cupped end bits, grader blades and overlays for earthmoving machinery. In addition, a complementary range of imported bucket tips in both forgings and castings was introduced. The bucket tip range consists of top brand names such as MTGPlus, MTG Kingmet, MTG StarMet, Futura, Shark, ETE, AB-M.M.T. and ESCO.

In 2003, AMT was acquired by ESP Africa a company which specialises in the supply of Berco undercarriage and replacement parts for earthmoving machinery, diesel engines and trucks. AMT and ESP are able to undertake all forms of undercarriage repairs through our central workshops based in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pinetown. In 2007, GB South Africa S.p.A, a subsidiary of GB Ricambi, acquired the majority shareholding of ESP Africa (Pty) Ltd which includes the trading divisions: ESP and AMT Services.
